Wife of Weezer Bassist Shot By Police, Booked for Attempted Murder

Jillian Shriner, a novelist and the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was both shot by police and booked for attempted murder in what sounds like an absolutely wild story out of Los Angeles. Most of the available information comes from a press release from the police. According to them, officers were pursuing three misdemeanor hit-and-run suspects into a Los Angeles neighborhood.

One of the suspects ran into the backyard of Jillian Shriner’s neighbor. Shriner came out of her house brandishing a handgun at police. It’s unclear why — maybe she thought the cops shouldn’t be chasing suspects through her neighbor’s backyard?

Police say they ordered Shriner to drop her weapon several times, but she refused. When she allegedly pointed the gun at an officer, police shot her. Shriner retreated inside her house with non-life-threatening injuries, where police eventually arrested her and transported her to the hospital. She was later booked for attempted murder.

Meanwhile, police managed to apprehend one of the three suspects — who was cited and released. The other two suspects were not located. And honestly, how does someone get “cited and released” after fleeing the cops following a hit-and-run?

For what it’s worth, Shriner revealed on Instagram last month that she has been undergoing treatment for cancer. She reported as recently as two weeks ago that she’d undergone two back-to-back surgeries, including a hysterectomy. That’s a lot of get-up-and-go for someone fresh off major cancer surgeries.

Shriner’s most recent book, Behold the Monster, is about serial killer Samuel Little. She and her husband have two adopted children.

We here at Pajiba do not encourage anyone to brandish a weapon at police. But if Shriner thought she was protecting her neighbors from the cops? That’s kind of badass.
