Max’s new hit series The Pitt ended its run last week with a spectacular season finale, capping one of the best seasons of television in recent years. Top-notch job all around. And to prove that it is still possible to make 15 excellent episodes of television every year, the Max medical drama is already in production and set to return for season two in 2026. It’s genuinely nice to know we can at least depend on having The Pitt around for three months out of every year—hopefully for the foreseeable future.
The series relies on good old-fashioned storytelling to succeed, rather than annoying cliffhangers that we have to wait two or three years to resolve. Case in point: The Pitt has no interest in dragging out any sort of mystery about who will or will not return for the second season. In an interview with TVLine, series co-creator R. Scott Gemmill revealed exactly who would return: Basically, everyone.
We already knew the second season would be set 10 months in the future, on the 4th of July. Now we know why they’re jumping ahead: that’s how long it will take Dr. Langdon to complete a treatment program for his substance abuse issues. The second season will pick up on the first day of Langdon’s return, leaving Noah Wyle’s Dr. Robby and Iso Briones’ Dr. Santos on edge.
The med students — Whitaker, Javadi, and Mel — will all return as well, although typically, they would have rotated out of emergency medicine by now. From TVLine:
“Because it will be July, everyone has been promoted or graduated to the next level. So, for instance, Whitaker will be an intern next year—so, finally, his character will finally be getting paid. Javadi is going to be doing a sub-internship, and we find out that maybe that’s just her stalling because she doesn’t want to make up her mind about where she wants to go. So we’ll see everybody, for the most part, and some people might be working different hours and different shifts, but it’s pretty much the same crew.”
Katherine LaNasa, who plays Nurse Dana, will also return despite seemingly quitting at the end of her shift, though we can expect her character to have an “attitude adjustment,” according to Gemmill. “She’ll be even less tolerant of bullshit. She’s going to be much more protective of her flock.”
